Centre for Alternative Technology
The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) is an internationally renowned environmental charity, a world leading eco centre, and one of the foremost providers of postgraduate environmental education in the UK.
Our vision is a sustainable future for all humanity as part of a thriving natural world. Our mission is to inspire, inform and enable humanity to respond to the climate and biodiversity emergency.
For nearly 50 years CAT has inspired, informed and enabled people to achieve practical solutions for sustainability. CAT published the first Alternative Energy Strategy for the UK in 1977 and has been influencing policy ever since. We were among the first to look at how we can get to net zero greenhouse gas emissions with the publication of ‘Zero Carbon Britain: An Alternative Energy Strategy’ in 2007, over a decade before net zero became the goal of governments around the world.
CAT has a long history of innovation and entrepreneurship, spinning out successful businesses and contributing to the sustainable development of Mid Wales and beyond.
CAT offers a variety of training opportunities from short residential courses to MSc courses covering a range of topics.
We have regular volunteering opportunities within our gardens and woodland teams as well as regular job positions.
